Vintage Mystic Weather Forecaster Plastic Hansel Gretel Witch Swiss Chalet Thermometer 1940s
Estate sale find. This piece is amazing. 5.5” tall, 4.5” wide. Turquoise plastic with a paper scene in the background (seen inside the two little doors) that shows a bubbling cauldron. Clearly this is a Hansel and Gretel -themed scene. There is a thermometer mounted to the very front and the idea is that the children and the witch act as a barometer. The witch comes out when inclement weather is predicted within 24 hours and hansel and gretel come out when weather is supposed to be clear and beautiful. There is an adjustement knob on the top to ‘set’ it. The back is a bit rough. Someone used cellophane tape at one point to hold the instructions onto the back of the piece. And it looks like the adjustment knob was ‘mended’ at one point with a toothpick. Despite those condition issues, the rest is a bit dusty, but excellent and ready to be added to your collection. Smoke free home.
